Ranger, Texas

Ranger is a city located in Eastland County, Texas. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 2,584.

Geography Ranger is located at 32°28'12" North, 98°40'36" West (32.470102, -98.676734)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 18.5 km² (7.1 mi²). 18.1 km² (7.0 mi²) of it is land and 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.82% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 2,584 people, 989 households, and 616 families residing in the city. The population density is 142.5/km² (369.0/mi²). There are 1,214 housing units at an average density of 67.0/km² (173.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 84.83% White, 6.73% African American, 0.66% Native American, 0.43% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 5.65% from other races, and 1.70% from two or more races. 13.51% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 989 households out of which 28.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 43.7% are married couples living together, 14.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 37.7% are non-families. 34.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 18.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.33 and the average family size is 3.00.

In the city the population is spread out with 22.7% under the age of 18, 17.4% from 18 to 24, 20.9% from 25 to 44, 19.4% from 45 to 64, and 19.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 97.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 93.8 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $22,500, and the median income for a family is $28,255. Males have a median income of $24,333 versus $15,946 for females. The per capita income for the city is $11,698. 18.3% of the population and 14.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 19.1% are under the age of 18 and 17.8% are 65 or older.
