Rail

Redirected from Rails

A rail is a steel profile, which in pairs, together with the sleepers and the bedding, form the railroad track. The rail profile usually has the form of an inverted 'T', but several other forms also exist. Rails are produced in segments which are placed end to end and welded together in order to produce as smooth a surface as possible for the wheels to roll on.

See also railroad, rail transport.
