Pulaski County, Missouri

Pulaski County is a county located in the U.S. State of Missouri. As of 2000, the population is 41,165. Its county seat is Waynesville6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,428 km² (551 mi²). 1,417 km² (547 mi²) of it is land and 11 km² (4 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.80% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 41,165 people, 13,433 households, and 9,953 families residing in the county. The population density is 29/km² (75/mi²). There are 15,408 housing units at an average density of 11/km² (28/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 78.35% White, 11.99% African American, 1.00% Native American, 2.27% Asian, 0.32% Pacific Islander, 2.50% from other races, and 3.57% from two or more races. 5.84% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 13,433 households out of which 42.30% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.60% are married couples living together, 9.70% have a female householder with no husband present, and 25.90% are non-families. 21.60% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.20% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.68 and the average family size is 3.13.

In the county the population is spread out with 27.50% under the age of 18, 16.60% from 18 to 24, 32.00% from 25 to 44, 15.90% from 45 to 64, and 7.90% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 28 years. For every 100 females there are 112.10 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 115.40 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $34,247, and the median income for a family is $37,786. Males have a median income of $26,553 versus $20,500 for females. The per capita income for the county is $14,586. 10.30% of the population and 8.00% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 12.40% are under the age of 18 and 12.30% are 65 or older.
