Pueblo County, Colorado

Pueblo County is a county located in the U.S. state of Colorado. As of 2000, the population is 141,472. The county seat is Pueblo.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 6,210 km² (2,398 mi²). 6,187 km² (2,389 mi²) of it is land and 23 km² (9 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.38% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 141,472 people, 54,579 households, and 37,332 families residing in the county. The population density is 23/km² (59/mi²). There are 58,926 housing units at an average density of 10/km² (25/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 79.47% White, 1.90% African American, 1.59% Native American, 0.65% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 12.93% from other races, and 3.38% from two or more races. 37.97% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 54,579 households out of which 31.50% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.10% are married couples living together, 13.30% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.60% are non-families. 26.60% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.10% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.52 and the average family size is 3.04.

In the county the population is spread out with 25.80% under the age of 18, 9.40% from 18 to 24, 27.20% from 25 to 44, 22.40% from 45 to 64, and 15.20% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 95.80 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.50 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $32,775, and the median income for a family is $40,130. Males have a median income of $31,514 versus $22,967 for females. The per capita income for the county is $17,163. 14.90% of the population and 11.20% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 19.70% are under the age of 18 and 8.70% are 65 or older.
