Proxomitron

Proxomitron, the Universal Web Filter was created by Scott Lemmon and is a configurable personal proxy tool. It can be configured to block pop-up ads, blinking banners and annoying sound clips. He distributes the program under a "ShonenWare" license, where it is free to use, but if you buy a Shonen Knife[?] CD and convince him you listened to it, he will consider you a registered user.

As of June, 2003, the development has been discontinued at version 4.5 and the official site now has the message:

"消えました" (kiemashita)
This translates to gone. Nevertheless, the program can still be freely used and distributed.
