Propitiation

Propitiation is a theological term describing an atoning sacrifice.

Generally, Christian belief is that the death of Jesus Christ on the cross is viewed as appeasing the justice of God, and effecting a reconciliation between God and mankind.

Christian theology[?] relates this to the 'mercy seat' or propitiatory in the Holy of Holies[?] in the Jewish temple.

This idea about sin and man's actions is associated in some Christian theological systems with Indemnity, and Imputation.
