Professional development

Professional development refers to vocational training. Those who use the term foster (wittingly or no) the impression that any work, no matter how menial or reluctantly undertaken, ranks as one of the professions.

Suppliers/providers/deliverers of professional development sometimes pad out the imparting of vocational skills with doses of all-purpose life skills or general personal coaching.
