The term is rarely used, except by some writers who apply it to male supporters of feminism, believing that the feminist movement has to be sexually exclusive and who thus reserve the term "feminist" for women only. Some people regard this usage as an expression of anti-male contempt by feminists.
The term is also sometimes used by people who hold feminist beliefs or who advocate on behalf of feminist causes, but who do not consider themselves to be feminists, per se.
