Princess Beatrice of York is the elder daughter of Prince Andrew, Duke of York and his wife Sarah, Duchess of York (née Sarah Ferguson).
The date of her birth, August 8, 1988, was widely regarded as being a good omen, because the digit '8' is considered lucky in many countries. She was born at the Portland Hospital[?] in London, her parents following the growing trend amongst members of the British royal family not to have their children born at home.
