A prequel is a movie, book, or other work that is composed after another, but shows or describes events before it. For instance, in The Chronicles of Narnia, The Magician's Nephew is a prequel to The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.

Another example of a prequel is Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace.
