Porter Township, Pike County, Pennsylvania

Porter Township is a township located in Pike County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 385.

Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 156.4 km² (60.4 mi²). 151.7 km² (58.6 mi²) of it is land and 4.7 km² (1.8 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 3.00% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 385 people, 168 households, and 117 families residing in the township. The population density is 2.5/km² (6.6/mi²). There are 926 housing units at an average density of 6.1/km² (15.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 95.84% White, 1.30% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.52% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 1.30% from other races, and 1.04% from two or more races. 3.12% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 168 households out of which 18.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.3% are married couples living together, 3.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.8% are non-families. 21.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.27 and the average family size is 2.65.

In the township the population is spread out with 15.6% under the age of 18, 5.5% from 18 to 24, 24.9% from 25 to 44, 32.2% from 45 to 64, and 21.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 49 years. For every 100 females there are 103.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 109.7 males.

The median income for a household in the township is $38,125, and the median income for a family is $42,188. Males have a median income of $35,667 versus $27,143 for females. The per capita income for the township is $22,139. 3.2% of the population and 1.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 3.1% are under the age of 18 and 0.0% are 65 or older.
