Port Protection is a town located in Prince of Wales-Outer Ketchikan Census Area, Alaska. As of the 2000 census, the population of the town is 63.

Geography Port Protection is located at 56°19'19" North, 133°36'24" West (56.322078, -133.606706)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 11.9 km² (4.6 mi²). 11.6 km² (4.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.61% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 63 people, 31 households, and 15 families residing in the town. The population density is 5.4/km² (14.1/mi²). There are 52 housing units at an average density of 4.5/km² (11.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 87.30% White, 0.00% African American, 0.00% Native American, 1.59% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 11.11% from two or more races. 4.76% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 31 households out of which 22.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 32.3% are married couples living together, 12.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 51.6% are non-families. 48.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.03 and the average family size is 2.80.

In the town the population is spread out with 23.8% under the age of 18, 6.3% from 18 to 24, 31.7% from 25 to 44, 28.6% from 45 to 64, and 9.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 152.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 152.6 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $10,938, and the median income for a family is $41,250. Males have a median income of $0 versus $51,250 for females. The per capita income for the town is $12,058. 57.5% of the population and 44.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 73.3% are under the age of 18 and 60.0% are 65 or older.
