Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 1,297 people, 501 households, and 350 families residing in the village. The population density is 495.8/km² (1,287.7/mi²). There are 527 housing units at an average density of 201.5/km² (523.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 95.22% White, 1.54% African American, 0.39% Native American, 0.15% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 1.23% from other races, and 1.46% from two or more races. 2.16% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 501 households out of which 32.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.9% are married couples living together, 16.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.1% are non-families. 23.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.57 and the average family size is 2.98.
