Pope John IV

John IV pope (December 24, 640 - October 12, 642), was a Dalmatian by birth, and succeeded Pope Severinus after the papal chair had been vacant four months. While he adhered to the repudiation of the Monothelism[?] doctrine by Severinus, he endeavoured to explain away the connection of Pope Honorius I with the heresy, especially defending him against emperor Constans II.

preceeded by Pope Severinus (640)
succeeded by Pope Theodore I (642-649)
