Pope Agapitus I

Pope Agapitus I (also called Agapetus I) was pope from 535 to 536. He was the son of Gordianus, a Roman priest who had been slain during the riots in the days of Pope Symmachus.

He died while on a mission for the Ostrogoth King Theodahad to convince Justinian to forego a threatened invasion of Italy.

He succeeded Pope John II and was followed by Pope Silverius.
