Pine Lakes, Florida

Pine Lakes is a town located in Lake County, Florida. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 755.

Geography Pine Lakes is located at 28°56'23" North, 81°25'45" West (28.939660, -81.429254)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 4.5 km² (1.7 mi²). 4.0 km² (1.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.5 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 10.40% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 755 people, 282 households, and 205 families residing in the town. The population density is 188.1/km² (486.9/mi²). There are 345 housing units at an average density of 85.9/km² (222.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 96.95% White, 0.93% African American, 0.40% Native American, 0.13% Asian, 0.93% Pacific Islander, 0.40% from other races, and 0.26% from two or more races. 2.78% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 282 households out of which 34.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.9% are married couples living together, 13.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.0% are non-families. 20.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.68 and the average family size is 2.94.

In the town the population is spread out with 27.9% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 27.5% from 25 to 44, 22.1% from 45 to 64, and 14.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 106.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 104.5 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $28,333, and the median income for a family is $26,250. Males have a median income of $28,194 versus $23,889 for females. The per capita income for the town is $11,232. 32.4% of the population and 29.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 55.9% are under the age of 18 and 15.2% are 65 or older.
