Pedro III, King Consort of Portugal (1777-1786) was the younger son of
Dom João V and brother of
Dom José Manuel I[?]. He married his niece Maria (heiress to the Portuguese throne) and, upon her succession to the throne in 1777, Pedro became King-Consort with ill defined powers. Pedro made no attempt to participate in government affairs, spending his time hunting or in religious exercises. He died in 1786.
