Pernambuco is one of the
states of
Brazil, located in the northeastern part of the country, on the Atlantic coast. Pernambuco was the home for the most important rebellions and insurrections in
Brazilian history, especially in the
19th century. It was first colonized by
Portuguese settlers, then occupied by the
Dutch[?], and militarly regained by
Portugal in
1647. The Dutch legacy is still recognizable in Pernambuco's people, accent, and architecture.
