Periodic table block

In the periodic table, the areas known as blocks are named after atomic orbitals.

Note: This is a stub article: there is more to write here, but my knowledge of chemistry is ancient, so I'll need to consult some references, first.

Names of periodic table blocks:

s-block
p-block
d-block
f-block
g-block

Some blocks contain several periodic table groups (eg the s-block contains groups 1 and 2); others correspond to chemical series.
