Pedro Alcazar

Pedro Alcazar (born September 16, 1975) was a young boxing talent who had won the World Flyweight championship. He was a protege of the legendary future Hall of Famer Roberto Duran, who was a pallbearer[?] at his funeral.

Alcazar's death shocked the boxing world in that after his fight in Las Vegas on June 22, 2002. He was declared ok by ringside doctors and no visible signs of any trauma were detected. Alcazar went sightseeing the day after the fight and was in his hotel room getting ready to board a plane back to Panama when he collapsed. He was taken to the hospital, where he died. It was the first time in boxing history a boxer collapsed so long after the fight had ended. The possibility of making boxers have extra medical testing up to 48 hours after the fight finished has already been discussed as a consequence of the time that Alcazar's death took to happen after his fight had ended.

On that fateful weekend, he had lost his title to Fernando Montiel[?].
