Park City, Illinois

Park City is a city located in Lake County, Illinois. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 6,637. Park City was incorporated in 1958, but does not have its own school system. The city draws its name from the trailer (mobile home) parks that house the majority of its residents.

Geography Park City is located at 42°21'6" North, 87°53'18" West (42.351668, -87.888437)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3.0 km² (1.1 mi²). 3.0 km² (1.1 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 6,637 people, 2,600 households, and 1,578 families residing in the city. The population density is 2,228.3/km² (5,773.0/mi²). There are 2,708 housing units at an average density of 909.2/km² (2,355.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 60.39% White, 7.53% African American, 0.23% Native American, 8.83% Asian, 0.15% Pacific Islander, 17.31% from other races, and 5.56% from two or more races. 37.76% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 2,600 households out of which 36.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 43.0% are married couples living together, 12.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 39.3% are non-families. 32.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.55 and the average family size is 3.31.

In the city the population is spread out with 27.9% under the age of 18, 11.5% from 18 to 24, 36.8% from 25 to 44, 16.7% from 45 to 64, and 7.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 30 years. For every 100 females there are 103.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 103.4 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $36,508, and the median income for a family is $42,387. Males have a median income of $30,767 versus $26,089 for females. The per capita income for the city is $18,595. 8.0% of the population and 6.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 9.8% are under the age of 18 and 7.2% are 65 or older.

A diversity of housing exists within the city including single and multi-family housing as well as various mobile home parks. The 2000 median house value was $139,000 and the median rent cost was $679. United States Census Bureau, 2000.
