Page description language

A page description language is a file format (and almost a programming language) for describing the contents of a printed page in a higher level than the actual output bitmap.

  • DVI (stands for DeVice Independent)
  • PCL (Printer Control Language)
  • PDF (Portable Document Format)
  • PostScript
