Ostend (Oostende in Dutch) is a municipality located in the Belgian province of West Flanders. The municipality comprises the city of Ostend proper and the towns of Mariakerke[?], Stene[?] and Zandvoorde[?]. On January 1st, 2000 Ostend had a total population of 67,279 (32,248 males and 35,031 females). The total area is 38.17 km² which gives a population density of 1762.61 inhabitants per km².
