Osborne is a city located in Osborne County, Kansas. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 1,607. It is the county seat of Osborne County6.

Geography Osborne is located at 39°26'26" North, 98°41'50" West (39.440651, -98.697118)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3.9 km² (1.5 mi²). 3.9 km² (1.5 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 1,607 people, 693 households, and 419 families residing in the city. The population density is 413.6/km² (1,068.1/mi²). There are 841 housing units at an average density of 216.5/km² (559.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 97.88% White, 0.19% African American, 0.12% Native American, 0.19% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 1.56% from two or more races. 0.19% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 693 households out of which 26.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.4% are married couples living together, 6.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 39.5% are non-families. 37.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 21.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.22 and the average family size is 2.94.

In the city the population is spread out with 23.9% under the age of 18, 5.7% from 18 to 24, 22.1% from 25 to 44, 21.3% from 45 to 64, and 27.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 44 years. For every 100 females there are 87.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 83.4 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $29,775, and the median income for a family is $36,544. Males have a median income of $25,128 versus $14,591 for females. The per capita income for the city is $17,092. 8.3% of the population and 5.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 10.7% are under the age of 18 and 7.5% are 65 or older.
