Oriental Orthodoxy comprises those parts of the Eastern branch of Christianity that do not belong to Eastern Orthodoxy, namely the Monophysites and Nestorians. The term is often used, but is less than ideal, since "eastern" and "oriental" are in fact synonyms. (This particular terminology is also impossible in languages such as French, where the word for 'eastern' is the cognate of 'oriental'.)
