Operation Chestnut

During World War II, Operation Chestnut was a failed British commando raid conducted as part of the invasion of Sicily.

Two small teams jumped into northern Sicily on the night of 12 July 1943. Most of their heavy equipment was lost in the jump. The teams landed near inhabited areas, alerting the defenders.

The raiders were unable to complete their mission, evading the defending units as they worked their way toward friendly lines.
