Onycha is a town located in Covington County, Alabama. As of the 2000 census, the population of the town is 208.

Geography Onycha is located at 31°13'17" North, 86°16'40" West (31.221515, -86.277694)1.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 2.2 km² (0.8 mi²). 2.2 km² (0.8 mi²) of it is land and 1.19% is water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 208 people, 96 households, and 64 families residing in the town. The population density is 95.6/km² (249.1/mi²). There are 113 housing units at an average density of 51.9/km² (135.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 99.04% White, 0.00% African American, 0.96% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.00% from two or more races. 0.48% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 96 households out of which 19.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.3% are married couples living together, 7.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.3% are non-families. 32.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.17 and the average family size is 2.72.

In the town the population is spread out with 16.8% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 29.3% from 25 to 44, 29.8% from 45 to 64, and 16.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 103.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 108.4 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $17,500, and the median income for a family is $29,688. Males have a median income of $29,375 versus $12,143 for females. The per capita income for the town is $12,530. 15.9% of the population and 11.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 18.9% are under the age of 18 and 8.1% are 65 or older.
