Oneida County, Wisconsin

Oneida County is a county located in the State of Wisconsin. As of 2000, the population is 36,776. Its county seat is Rhinelander6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 3,201 km² (1,236 mi²). 2,912 km² (1,124 mi²) of it is land and 288 km² (111 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 9.01% water.

Demographics As of the census1 of 2000, there are 36,776 people, 15,333 households, and 10,487 families residing in the county. The population density is 13/km² (33/mi²). There are 26,627 housing units at an average density of 9/km² (24/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 97.71% White, 0.33% African American, 0.66% Native American, 0.30% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 0.21% from other races, and 0.75% from two or more races. 0.66% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 15,333 households out of which 27.00% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.80% are married couples living together, 7.10% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.60% are non-families. 26.40% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.00% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.34 and the average family size is 2.82.

In the county, the population is spread out with 22.30% under the age of 18, 5.70% from 18 to 24, 26.50% from 25 to 44, 26.80% from 45 to 64, and 18.70% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 99.20 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 97.30 males.
