Ojus, Florida

Ojus is a town located in Miami-Dade County, Florida. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 16,642.

Geography Ojus is located at 25°57'24" North, 80°9'29" West (25.956720, -80.157917)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 8.5 km² (3.3 mi²). 7.2 km² (2.8 mi²) of it is land and 1.3 km² (0.5 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 14.94% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 16,642 people, 7,089 households, and 4,345 families residing in the town. The population density is 2,303.1/km² (5,973.2/mi²). There are 8,035 housing units at an average density of 1,111.9/km² (2,883.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 85.09% White, 7.05% African American, 0.13% Native American, 1.74% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 3.08% from other races, and 2.86% from two or more races. 30.60% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 7,089 households out of which 27.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.2% are married couples living together, 11.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 38.7% are non-families. 33.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 16.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.33 and the average family size is 2.98.

In the town the population is spread out with 21.5% under the age of 18, 6.4% from 18 to 24, 26.9% from 25 to 44, 25.6% from 45 to 64, and 19.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 87.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 83.0 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $33,294, and the median income for a family is $41,693. Males have a median income of $34,773 versus $28,781 for females. The per capita income for the town is $25,392. 13.5% of the population and 11.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 14.2% are under the age of 18 and 15.8% are 65 or older.
