Ojo Amarillo is a town located in San Juan County, New Mexico. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 829.

Geography Ojo Amarillo is located at 36°41'36" North, 108°22'10" West (36.693205, -108.369313)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 4.9 km² (1.9 mi²). 4.9 km² (1.9 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 829 people, 174 households, and 163 families residing in the town. The population density is 167.6/km² (434.8/mi²). There are 193 housing units at an average density of 39.0/km² (101.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 1.57% White, 0.12% African American, 95.54% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.48% from other races, and 2.29% from two or more races. 1.33% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 174 households out of which 72.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.0% are married couples living together, 34.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 6.3% are non-families. 4.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 0.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 4.76 and the average family size is 4.84.

In the town the population is spread out with 49.3% under the age of 18, 11.3% from 18 to 24, 25.3% from 25 to 44, 12.9% from 45 to 64, and 1.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 18 years. For every 100 females there are 94.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 85.0 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $30,662, and the median income for a family is $24,356. Males have a median income of $32,000 versus $11,458 for females. The per capita income for the town is $5,661. 36.1% of the population and 39.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 37.1% are under the age of 18 and 71.4% are 65 or older.
