Ogdensburg is a city located in St. Lawrence County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 12,364.

Geography Ogdensburg is located at 44°42'2" North, 75°28'52" West (44.700547, -75.481209)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 21.1 km² (8.2 mi²). 13.1 km² (5.1 mi²) of it is land and 8.0 km² (3.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 37.87% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 12,364 people, 4,181 households, and 2,583 families residing in the city. The population density is 941.6/km² (2,440.0/mi²). There are 4,531 housing units at an average density of 345.1/km² (894.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 85.05% White, 9.92% African American, 0.80% Native American, 0.69% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 2.81% from other races, and 0.67% from two or more races. 6.22% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 4,181 households out of which 31.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 41.5% are married couples living together, 15.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 38.2% are non-families. 32.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.39 and the average family size is 2.98.

In the city the population is spread out with 21.3% under the age of 18, 9.5% from 18 to 24, 35.3% from 25 to 44, 21.3% from 45 to 64, and 12.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 127.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 134.6 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $27,954, and the median income for a family is $36,236. Males have a median income of $32,358 versus $21,485 for females. The per capita income for the city is $16,650. 18.3% of the population and 14.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 23.3% are under the age of 18 and 13.6% are 65 or older.
