Odell, Oregon

Odell is an unincorporated community located in Hood River County, Oregon. It was named for an early pioneer, William Odell a native of Tennessee by way of California, who settled in the area in 1861. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 1,849.

Geography Odell is located at 45°37'47" North, 121°32'44" West (45.629680, -121.545429)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 5.2 km² (2.0 mi²). 5.2 km² (2.0 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 1,849 people, 573 households, and 468 families residing in this unincorporated community. The population density is 357.0/km² (923.2/mi²). There are 594 housing units at an average density of 114.7/km² (296.6/mi²). The racial makeup of this unincorporated community is 66.47% White, 0.49% African American, 0.87% Native American, 0.43% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 29.58% from other races, and 2.16% from two or more races. 40.02% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 573 households out of which 45.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.4% are married couples living together, 8.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 18.2% are non-families. 14.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.19 and the average family size is 3.51.

In this unincorporated community the population is spread out with 33.9% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 29.9% from 25 to 44, 18.0% from 45 to 64, and 9.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 30 years. For every 100 females there are 97.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 97.7 males.

The median income for a household in this unincorporated community is $36,991, and the median income for a family is $37,065. Males have a median income of $30,300 versus $16,983 for females. The per capita income for this unincorporated community is $18,023. 12.9% of the population and 11.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 14.6% are under the age of 18 and 0.0% are 65 or older.
