The town is located off the coast of the Atlantic Ocean. It is about 1.6 miles north of Briny Breezes, 1.3 miles east of Boynton Beach and 4.3 miles south of South Palm Beach.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 5.2 km² (2.0 mi²). 2.2 km² (0.9 mi²) of it is land and 3.0 km² (1.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 57.00% water.
Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 1,636 people, 875 households, and 494 families residing in the town. The population density is 734.5/km² (1,909.6/mi²). There are 1,449 housing units at an average density of 650.5/km² (1,691.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 98.35% White, 0.12% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.55% Asian, 0.12% Pacific Islander, 0.43% from other races, and 0.43% from two or more races. 2.93% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 875 households out of which 11.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.1% are married couples living together, 3.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 43.5% are non-families. 37.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 17.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 1.87 and the average family size is 2.41.
