Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 2,731 people, 1,067 households, and 767 families residing in the town. The population density is 157.1/km² (406.8/mi²). There are 1,191 housing units at an average density of 68.5/km² (177.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 81.03% White, 1.28% African American, 10.00% Native American, 0.55% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 0.73% from other races, and 6.33% from two or more races. 2.49% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,067 households out of which 28.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.9% are married couples living together, 10.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.1% are non-families. 24.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.56 and the average family size is 3.04.
