Norton is a town located in Essex County, Vermont. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 214.

Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 102.0 km² (39.4 mi²). 101.1 km² (39.0 mi²) of it is land and 0.8 km² (0.3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.81% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 214 people, 91 households, and 51 families residing in the town. The population density is 2.1/km² (5.5/mi²). There are 252 housing units at an average density of 2.5/km² (6.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 96.73% White, 0.00% African American, 2.34% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.93% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 91 households out of which 26.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.7% are married couples living together, 3.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 42.9% are non-families. 30.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.35 and the average family size is 3.15.

In the town the population is spread out with 24.3% under the age of 18, 5.6% from 18 to 24, 23.8% from 25 to 44, 28.0% from 45 to 64, and 18.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 43 years. For every 100 females there are 98.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 116.0 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $20,000, and the median income for a family is $25,000. Males have a median income of $32,188 versus $20,417 for females.
