Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the unorganized territory has a total area of 2,537.2 km² (979.6 mi²). 2,295.0 km² (886.1 mi²) of it is land and 242.2 km² (93.5 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 9.55% water.
Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 547 people, 232 households, and 157 families residing in the unorganized territory. The population density is 0.2/km² (0.6/mi²). There are 1,044 housing units at an average density of 0.5/km² (1.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the unorganized territory is 95.25% White, 0.18% African American, 3.47% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.55% from other races, and 0.55% from two or more races. 0.73% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 232 households out of which 26.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.0% are married couples living together, 5.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.3% are non-families. 28.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
