North Versailles Township, Pennsylvania

North Versailles Township is a township located in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 11,125.

Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 21.4 km² (8.3 mi²). 21.0 km² (8.1 mi²) of it is land and 0.4 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.93% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 11,125 people, 4,933 households, and 3,102 families residing in the township. The population density is 529.6/km² (1,371.9/mi²). There are 5,227 housing units at an average density of 248.8/km² (644.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 87.81% White, 9.77% African American, 0.06% Native American, 0.76% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.22% from other races, and 1.35% from two or more races. 0.49% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 4,933 households out of which 23.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.7% are married couples living together, 13.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 37.1% are non-families. 32.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.23 and the average family size is 2.82.

In the township the population is spread out with 19.9% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 27.5% from 25 to 44, 24.1% from 45 to 64, and 21.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 89.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 85.0 males.

The median income for a household in the township is $30,617, and the median income for a family is $38,145. Males have a median income of $31,389 versus $25,451 for females. The per capita income for the township is $16,991. 9.8% of the population and 8.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 17.4% are under the age of 18 and 8.5% are 65 or older.
