Geography North Kansas City is located at 39°8'20" North, 94°34'14" West (39.139007, -94.570518)¹.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 12.0 km² (4.6 mi²). 11.3 km² (4.4 mi²) of it is land and 0.7 km² (0.3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 5.82% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 4,714 people, 2,546 households, and 1,013 families residing in the city. The population density is 417.5/km² (1,080.0/mi²). There are 2,779 housing units at an average density of 246.1/km² (636.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 82.48% White, 3.97% African American, 0.59% Native American, 4.29% Asian, 0.23% Pacific Islander, 3.31% from other races, and 5.13% from two or more races. 8.44% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 2,546 households out of which 18.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 24.7% are married couples living together, 11.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 60.2% are non-families. 51.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 1.85 and the average family size is 2.77.

In the city the population is spread out with 18.0% under the age of 18, 12.7% from 18 to 24, 34.3% from 25 to 44, 20.9% from 45 to 64, and 14.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 94.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.2 males.
