North Courtland is a town located in Lawrence County, Alabama. As of the 2000 census, the population of the town is 799.

Geography North Courtland is located at 34°40'35" North, 87°18'28" West (34.676370, -87.307914)1.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.3 km² (0.5 mi²). 1.3 km² (0.5 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 799 people, 330 households, and 206 families residing in the town. The population density is 593.3/km² (1,535.9/mi²). There are 366 housing units at an average density of 271.8/km² (703.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 2.38% White, 97.50% African American, 0.13% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.00% from two or more races. 0.75% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 330 households out of which 30.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 30.3% are married couples living together, 28.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 37.3% are non-families. 34.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.42 and the average family size is 3.15.

In the town the population is spread out with 29.0% under the age of 18, 10.8% from 18 to 24, 26.3% from 25 to 44, 21.7% from 45 to 64, and 12.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 33 years. For every 100 females there are 75.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 72.3 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $19,875, and the median income for a family is $26,250. Males have a median income of $25,938 versus $21,058 for females. The per capita income for the town is $12,776. 28.1% of the population and 19.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 32.6% are under the age of 18 and 45.8% are 65 or older.
