Nickelodeon is an older term referring to the small, neighborhood
movie theaters or fleapits (as they were also called) in which admission was obtained for 5
cents (American). Nickelodeons were popular during the
1920s and
1930s; they were often one of the few diversions for young people in the United States during the
Great Depression as the movie industry continued to grow.
