Joined board of Unilever in 1987 and appointed chief executive officer in 1996. Brands include; Lipton[?], Dove, Hellmans, Cif, Domestos, Impulse, Vaseline, Ponds, Signal, Comfort, Slim fast, Magnum, Solero, Bird's Eye and Findus.

Interests; sculpture, jazz, antiques, opera, paintings and golf. Supports the Irish Rugby team and Manchester United.
