Newtown, Ohio

Newtown is a village located in southeast Hamilton County, Ohio. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 2,420. Newtown was first settled in 1792 under the name of Mercersburg. Thee name was changed before the village incorporated in 1901.

Geography Newtown is located at 39°7'33" North, 84°21'29" West (39.125811, -84.358102)1. Newtown is located within Anderson Township, Hamilton County, Ohio. According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 6.0 km² (2.3 mi²). 6.0 km² (2.3 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 2,420 people, 924 households, and 669 families residing in the village. The population density is 402.7/km² (1,042.4/mi²). There are 977 housing units at an average density of 162.6/km² (420.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 96.36% White, 1.86% African American, 0.41% Native American, 0.87% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.12% from other races, and 0.37% from two or more races. 1.16% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 924 households out of which 35.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.9% are married couples living together, 10.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.5% are non-families. 23.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.62 and the average family size is 3.11.

In the village the population is spread out with 27.1% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 32.1% from 25 to 44, 24.7% from 45 to 64, and 9.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 94.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 93.7 males.

The median income for a household in the village is $50,980, and the median income for a family is $56,902. Males have a median income of $41,976 versus $28,810 for females. The per capita income for the village is $32,590. 7.1% of the population and 4.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 8.3% are under the age of 18 and 12.5% are 65 or older.
