Geography Newark is located at 35°42'9" North, 91°26'41" West (35.702637, -91.444798)¹.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 1,219 people, 500 households, and 345 families residing in the city. The population density is 268.9/km² (696.9/mi²). There are 562 housing units at an average density of 124.0/km² (321.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 96.55% White, 0.66% African American, 0.98% Native American, 0.49% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, 0.08% from other races, and 1.15% from two or more races. 0.90% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 500 households out of which 35.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.0% are married couples living together, 10.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.0% are non-families. 29.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 18.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.44 and the average family size is 3.01.
