Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 1,367 people, 488 households, and 318 families residing in the city. The population density is 787.8/km² (2,031.6/mi²). There are 512 housing units at an average density of 295.1/km² (760.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 29.63% White, 0.15% African American, 66.86% Native American, 0.29% Asian, 0.15% Pacific Islander, 0.07% from other races, and 2.85% from two or more races. 1.46% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 488 households out of which 34.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 36.1% are married couples living together, 22.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 34.8% are non-families. 29.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.69 and the average family size is 3.34.
