Neisseria

Neisseria is a genus of bacteria, included among the proteobacteria, a large group of gram-negative forms.

One species, N. gonorrhoeae, is responsible for the disease gonorrhoea.

Another pathogenic species is N. meningitidis a common cause of bacterial meningitis.
