Napier, New Zealand

Napier is a coastal port[?] city in Hawke's Bay, New Zealand. The city was established in the 1850s and soon became the centre of the Hawkes Bay region, serving as the provincial capital until the provinces were abolished in the 1870s.

In 1931 Napier was levelled by the Napier earthquake and ensuing fires. The city was rebuilt in the Art Deco style that was popular at the time, and remains a fine example of this type of architecture.

In late 1944 or early 1945, Unterseeboot 862 entered the Port of Napier[?] at night, undetected.

Thanks to the pleasant climate Napier is something of a resort town, with many nice restaurants and cafes.
