Naevius Sutorius Macro

Quintus Naevius Sutorius Macro (or Quintus Naevius Cordus Sutorius Macro) (21 BC - 38 AD) was the commander of the Roman Praetorian Guard after the execution of Aelius Sejanus in October, 31. It is believed Macro was active in discrediting Sejanus and also directed the subsequent purge against his family and followers.

Macro retained his command on the appointment of Caligula; it has been claimed that Macro killed the aged and ill Tiberius to ensure Caligula's succession. Suetonius states that he gained favor by prostituting his wife, Eunia (or Ennia), to the Emperor around 34. He was forced from office in 38 on the orders of Caligula and was either executed or committed suicide.
