Mountain View, Arkansas

Mountain View is a city located in Stone County, Arkansas. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 2,876. The city is the county seat of Stone County6.

Geography Mountain View is located at 35°51'54" North, 92°6'31" West (35.864886, -92.108497)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 17.7 km² (6.8 mi²). 17.7 km² (6.8 mi²) of it is land and 0.15% is water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 2,876 people, 1,287 households, and 792 families residing in the city. The population density is 162.8/km² (421.8/mi²). There are 1,450 housing units at an average density of 82.1/km² (212.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 96.97% White, 0.00% African American, 0.94% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.31% from other races, and 1.74% from two or more races. 1.70% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,287 households out of which 23.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.7% are married couples living together, 9.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 38.4% are non-families. 35.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 19.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.13 and the average family size is 2.72.

In the city the population is spread out with 20.2% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 20.7% from 25 to 44, 26.3% from 45 to 64, and 25.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 47 years. For every 100 females there are 81.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 80.3 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $19,302, and the median income for a family is $27,589. Males have a median income of $20,000 versus $16,790 for females. The per capita income for the city is $17,375. 17.0% of the population and 10.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 19.1% are under the age of 18 and 11.7% are 65 or older.
