Mount Pleasant is a town located in Izard County, Arkansas. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 401.

Geography Mount Pleasant is located at 35°58'45" North, 91°46'2" West (35.979214, -91.767344)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 9.0 km² (3.5 mi²). 9.0 km² (3.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.29% is water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 401 people, 166 households, and 113 families residing in the town. The population density is 44.7/km² (115.8/mi²). There are 182 housing units at an average density of 20.3/km² (52.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 99.25% White, 0.00% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.25% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.50% from two or more races. 1.50% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 166 households out of which 37.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.4% are married couples living together, 11.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.9% are non-families. 28.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.42 and the average family size is 3.00.

In the town the population is spread out with 30.2% under the age of 18, 6.5% from 18 to 24, 27.9% from 25 to 44, 23.2% from 45 to 64, and 12.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 91.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 84.2 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $21,875, and the median income for a family is $29,286. Males have a median income of $22,115 versus $17,250 for females. The per capita income for the town is $11,014. 21.5% of the population and 16.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 20.7% are under the age of 18 and 52.2% are 65 or older.
