Morgan County, Missouri

Morgan County is a county located in the U.S. State of Missouri. As of 2000, the population is 19,309. Its county seat is Versailles6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,590 km² (614 mi²). 1,547 km² (597 mi²) of it is land and 43 km² (16 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.68% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 19,309 people, 7,850 households, and 5,549 families residing in the county. The population density is 12/km² (32/mi²). There are 13,898 housing units at an average density of 9/km² (23/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 97.34% White, 0.51% African American, 0.63% Native American, 0.12% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.16% from other races, and 1.22% from two or more races. 0.83% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 7,850 households out of which 26.60% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.50% are married couples living together, 7.10% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.30% are non-families. 25.10% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.90% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.42 and the average family size is 2.88.

In the county the population is spread out with 23.80% under the age of 18, 6.20% from 18 to 24, 23.10% from 25 to 44, 27.30% from 45 to 64, and 19.60% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 43 years. For every 100 females there are 97.20 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 95.00 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $30,659, and the median income for a family is $35,908. Males have a median income of $26,579 versus $19,072 for females. The per capita income for the county is $15,950. 16.20% of the population and 12.10% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 25.60% are under the age of 18 and 9.70% are 65 or older.
